IED’S INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS CHALLENGE THE CITY OF ROME: “AN ARTISTIC APPROACH TO A CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVE”
The event is organized by the Arts Management international students of the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) Rome, in collaboration with Federculture and with the support of Romaeuropa Foundation as proposal for rethinking the cultural landscape through art.
Rome, February 20th, 2014 - The city of Rome is an international metropolis, trapped in its own history, where almost half of the Italian heritage is situated. Because of this reputation, Rome can be considered as a “living museum”. Through a discussion series the students of the Master in Arts Management will examine in which form contemporary art reflects on the city’s development. What are the responses? What is its role in this challenge? The aim is to understand what is its role in the current re-thinking of Rome, for the city to be considered a living organism more than just its urban planning and infrastructures.
The art’s involvement in city development and the idea of a curated urban space offers the possibility of different narratives, guiding the re-planning of Rome. How does the city face the challenge of the contemporary scenario?
ArtscapingRome offers the professionals in the art sector as well as those from different city-art related areas the opportunity to discuss, uniting the widespread pieces of a puzzle called Art Industry. Speakers will discuss possible solutions toward the cultural evolution of Rome. On the 20th of February, in Caffè Letterario, Ostiense, from 17.30 to 19.30, Flavia Barca(assessore alla cultura Roma Capitale), Salvatore Iaconesi (multitasking designer), Stefano Antonelli (urban curator), Teresa Emanuele (artist), Benedetta di Loreto (curator and art critic), Antonella Radicchi (architect), Antonio Venece (School Manager IED Roma) will present their perspectives. Damiana Leoni will moderate.
